You are responsible for giving yourself the flu and flu-like illness! Flu germs are not in the air or in the ventilation system of a building. Infectious diseases enter your body through direct contamination of your mucus membranes. HAND WASHING, when done correctly, is the single most effect way to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. Good hand washing technique is easy to implement and will significantly reduce the spread of infectious diseases.
The four simple steps to good hand washing are:
You should wash your hands every time you feel that you have come in contact with germs. Children need to be reminded to wash their hands before they eat, after playing outside, after playing with animals, after using the bathroom and after blowing their noses or coughing into their hands.
When soap and water are not available, waterless hand soaps and sanitizers are a good alternative. They are available in gels, liquids, wipes and towelettes and can be kept in your purse, car or anywhere that soap and water is not readily available.
Proper and frequent hand washing is the key to preventing the spread of many common infections, so lather up this season and stay healthy!
